This Privacy Policy explains how Meal Swipe ("Meal Swipe," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Meal Swipe mobile application (the "App").

Meal Swipe is operated by Alex Harlan in the United States.

By creating an account or using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address
• Name
• Encrypted authentication credentials

This information is required to provide secure access to the App.

User Content

While using the App, you may provide:

• Saved recipes
• Ingredients you enter
• Food preferences
• Dietary restrictions
• Recipe selections

This data is used solely to operate app features and personalize your experience.

AI Processing Data (Recipe Generation)

Meal Swipe provides recipe suggestions using artificial intelligence. When you use the recipe generation feature, the information you enter (such as ingredients, cuisine preferences, cooking time, or dietary filters) is securely transmitted to our third-party AI processing provider: OpenAI, L.L.C.

The data sent may include:

• Ingredients entered by you
• Meal preferences
• Cuisine selections
• Dietary filters or restrictions
• Cooking time preferences
• Keywords or search requests

This information is used only to generate recipe suggestions and is not used by Meal Swipe to personally identify you.

Meal Swipe does not send the following to OpenAI:

• Your email address
• Account password
• Payment information
• Subscription status

OpenAI processes this information solely to generate responses on our behalf. You can review OpenAI's privacy policy here: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy

By using the recipe generation feature, you consent to this processing.

Subscription & Purchase Information

All payments and subscriptions are processed through Apple's In-App Purchase system and verified through RevenueCat.

We do not receive or store:

• Full credit card numbers
• Card security codes
• Billing passwords

We may receive limited information from Apple, including:

• Subscription status
• Purchase confirmation
• Renewal or expiration dates

This information is used only to enable premium features.

Technical and Device Information

We automatically collect limited technical information necessary to operate the App, including:

• Device type
• Operating system version
• App version
• Crash diagnostics

This information helps us maintain performance, reliability, and security.

Location Information

When you use the restaurant discovery feature, the App requests access to your device's location (coarse/balanced accuracy). This is used solely to find nearby restaurants matching your meal preferences.

Your location coordinates are:

• Held in device memory only for the duration of the search session
• Forwarded to Google Places API solely to perform a proximity search
• Never stored in our database or linked to your account
• Discarded immediately after search results are returned

You may decline location access. The restaurant discovery feature will not function without it, but all other App features remain available.

2. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

• Create and manage user accounts
• Provide personalized recipe recommendations
• Generate AI-based recipe suggestions
• Find nearby restaurants matching your meal preferences (using your location)
• Enable password recovery and email verification
• Manage subscriptions and premium features
• Improve app functionality and stability
• Respond to support inquiries

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

3. Third-Party Services

We rely on trusted service providers to operate core features of the App:

• OpenAI (AI recipe generation) — processes user-entered ingredients and preferences solely to generate recipe suggestions.
• Apple In-App Purchases & RevenueCat — processes subscriptions and verifies purchase status.
• Resend — handles email verification and password recovery emails.
• Supabase (cloud database hosting) — stores user accounts, preferences, and saved recipes securely.
• Google LLC (Google Places API — restaurant discovery) — receives your device location coordinates solely to return a list of nearby restaurants. Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. Your coordinates are not stored by Meal Swipe.

Each provider processes information only as necessary to perform its services and under its own privacy policies.

4. Data Storage and Security

User data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure. We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

5. Account Deletion and Data Retention

You may request account deletion at any time within the App settings or by contacting: support@getmealswipe.com

Upon deletion:

• Account access is permanently revoked
• Associated personal data is removed from active systems

We may retain limited information where required for legal, tax, or billing compliance.

6. Children's Privacy

Meal Swipe is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If we learn that personal information has been provided by a child under 13, we will promptly delete it.

7. User Consent

Before using the AI recipe generation feature, the App displays a notice informing you that your entered ingredients and preferences will be sent to an external AI processing provider to generate recipe suggestions. You may choose not to proceed.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted within the App. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
